The Stationary Bookshelf

The Stationary Bookshelf is built to match the look of a bookshelf door; it is not a functional door, they are made exactly like a hidden door (sets into a wall frame) except they do not swing.

Important We do not prep, paint or stain DIY KITS

Hide-A-Way Doors offers five basic types of readily available wood, paint grade, pine, poplar, oak and maple.

Paint Grade: Made from finger-jointed pine, paint grade is our cheapest grade we carry. Paint grade comes primed white and has some imperfections. Less as dense as other hard woods we provide, paint grade scratches and dents easily. Paint grade does not take stain but is fine to patch and paint.

Clear Pine: Sometimes called #1 pine does not have knots and can be painted or stained (with the use of soft wood conditioner). Pine is very soft and scratches and/ or dents easily. Clear pine is somewhat expensive but for the most part is readily available.

Poplar: Poplar is a harder wood than pine or paint grade but is still considered a soft wood. Poplar accepts paint very well and is stronger than pine but has dark color variation making poplar not optimal for staining. Poplar is readily available but slightly more expensive than pine.

Red Oak: Oak is extremely hard, readily available, dense hard wood that has very little knots. Oak has uniform grain patterns and stains extremely well.

Maple: Sometimes hard to find and expensive, maple usually lists as a soft wood but is very strong and doesn't dent or scratch as easy as pine or oak. Maple has fine grain patterns and even colors throughout making it perfect for wood working projects & cabinet making. Maple takes stain extremely well making it perfect to stain. Maple can be stained to look like other more expensive wood like hickory, walnut or cherry.

Other Species: We can order just about any species of wood in the event that you would need to match existing furniture or other bookshelves you may have. The more expensive species, cherry, hickory, walnut, ect have less of a demand so we do not keep them in stock.

Special orders please call 1-(888)-9 Build It.

Bookshelf Backing Option

All bookshelves come standard with 1/4" luan. Luan is thin, smooth finished plywood. Upgrade to 3/4" finished cabinet plywood adds extra stability and offers better sound proofing. NEWLY added, we now offer 1/4" bead board. Also available, mirrored plastic. The bookshelf door is NOT available in a DIY kit.

DIY Finishing:

In order to supply you with the best pricing possible, when you select DIY Finishing you are aware that all of the paint/ stain

prep work including, but not limited to, filling holes and

imperfections are assumed by the customer, we do not provide this

service unless you choose us to finish you product.

Featured add ons include upper & lower cabinet doors, mechanical key lock, electromagnetic locks that operate from a key pad, key fob or bio-metric thumb print. We also provide an automatic door opener.

Electromagnetic locks: When ordering, you understand that HAWD can not install EML on site. Installation and wiring has to be done on site by a qualified installer. We do not cover damaged goods from faulty wiring.

Open in vs. open out, & The Alpha Door:

Open out doors (doors that swing toward you as you open them) have to have a small space at the top & bottom for them to be able to operate properly. The open out doors are harder to conceal, if that is your purpose, than that of an open in door. Open out doors are perfect for limited space in rooms that are smaller like pantries and closets.

Open in doors shut against and open away from the case trim making them a little better for concealing gun and safe rooms.

Hide-A-Way Doors "Alpha Door" is a specially designed door for complete concealment. The Alpha Door is designed for panic rooms, gun and safe rooms, etc. The Alpha Door requires special installment by a professional contractor. Please call us 1-888-9-Build it, if you are interested.

Shipping Methods

Fully assembled doors usually ship through Old Dominion; DIY Kits are usually ship through UPS. Due to rising shipping costs, delivery is curbside only. A liftgate option is an extra service provided by Old Dominion that costs and additional $70.00 that you are responsible for. We have recently added the option for a liftgate service before checkout; Old Dominion will automatically charge HAWD in the event that you do not provide at least two people to hand unload, or other means of unloading in which a liftgate is not needed in which time we will send you a bill for that service. You are responsible for any extra costs that accrue from changes to a curbside only delivery. We suggest contacting the appropriate freight company and arrange a direct payment for changes made to the shipping. Old Dominion usually ships within 2 to 3 days after order is dropped off at their docks.

Production times vary during heavier order volumes, and while we do our best to stay on schedule, production times are not guaranteed. DIY orders are the fastest through production, assembled orders that do not get finished are next, followed by orders that get painted & stain & clear coat orders. Custom orders take the longest along with orders with cabinet doors. Any questions please email us. sales@hideawaydoors.com
